SoCal may be known for its iconic beaches, but tourists and locals alike are drawn inland by the nature, aesthetic, and eclectic spirit of the rural desert. This market and restaurant development project found in the arid badlands just outside of San Diego is a refuge for travelers seeking food, fun, and necessities. Hikers visiting the nearby Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and backpackers coming off the legendary Pacific Crest Trail can find water and showers, sundries, and a refreshing drink at a bar where they can swap stories with fellow adventurers and locals looking to unwind. A palette that captures the memories of swirling dust in the burnt orange desert sunset is echoed by terracotta flooring and unlacquered copper hardware. Pine millwork throughout a steel-framed prefab structure acts as the base for this desert oasis, currently under construction.
