This makeover of an Echo Park painter’s loft included a reconfiguration and redesign of living and work spaces. The client preferred a playful and colorful style to stimulate creativity. The resulting warm, eclectic decoration and finishes also acted as a compliment to the artist’s paintings, which adorn the walls of the loft. The residence features an open floor plan kitchen, with appliances from Bertazzoni, and a custom bookshelf wall that divides the living and bedroom areas. Each space, living or work, is kept distinctly separate and specific to its function, yet a connecting flow is maintained throughout the residence. A new roof with a skylight and various new windows flood the studio space with natural lighting. The walls and ceilings of the living area are kept raw, accenting the artwork and colorful touches. In the bathroom, teal tile and red cabinet knobs are functional without compromising personality and whimsy.
