A young couple sought to update the core of their 1940s craftsman house located near the new SoFi Stadium in South LA. We planned a partial reconfiguration of the home to include an open floorplan that would create a flow between the kitchen and dining area. We created new openings, adding French doors in the dining area and primary bedroom that open into the rear patio and garden, and a trapezoidal skylight in the guest bathroom. The home’s original, compactly-scaled one-and-a-half bathrooms were transformed into two full bathrooms under challenging spatial constraints. In our renovation, SPEEDBOAT infused the home with subtle magic, integrating older character details with newer finishes. A material palette of classic creams and off-whites is accented with pops of color and texture. Baltic birch millwork is dotted with retro knobs, and globe lighting fixtures punctuate the planar surfaces with a diffused glow.
