This in-progress Highland Park home can be found nestled amongst the hills above the Los Angeles neighborhood. Situated on more than two acres of land, the view of the surrounding trees and sloped greenery from the wraparound deck and second floor terrace will be echoed throughout the design of the home, which the owners requested have a warm, natural feel. The process of transforming this duplex into a single-family home will not only upgrade the functionality of the space, but will elevate the tone and design of the interiors for a more welcoming, playful, vintage aesthetic inspired by the 1970s and 80s. Terracotta and wooden materiality will play as the neutral base for an Alexander Girard inspired melody, with geometric tiles, organic florals, and pops of color singing throughout the home. Ephemeral, colorful, abstract shapes and plastic laminates inspired by Ettore Sottsass and the 80’s postmodern aesthetic will influence the final touches of this classic, hillside ranch.
